![]() A litte bit strange seems to me that during js script execution Indesin client says. But with the same master spread and the same jsx-script Indesign Server does not - the last page is number 4 and it has overset text. The recording is here on Vimeo: Data Merge with InDesign. With activated smart text reflow in the master spread document CS4 client automatically adds new pages to avoid overset text. Each page will have an extra page associated with it so that. Im adding the second page and a textframe and then linking this textframe to the first page textframe (so smart text flow will work). For instance, InData’s English-like scripting language, allows you to build conditional rules, including or excluding fields based on the presence or content of other fields, including one or more graphics per entry based on picture availability, etc. Smart text reflow ONLY (per textframe) IF at least 2 text frames are threaded together (documentation). If the condition is then changed and text is made visible again within the story because of the condition change (no typing), then there is overset text. Joe will describe those limitations, and show how InData and InCatalog, two plugins from Em Software, expand the boundaries, taking InDesign automation to new levels. In the case where there is conditional text, that once turned on, leaves blank pages, Smart Text Reflow can be set in Preferences so that it deletes the blank pages automatically. Learn how to create personalized letters, envelopes, mailing labels, even catalogs with images.īut as powerful as the InDesign Data Merge function is, it has limitations. Using the Selection tool, select a text frame, and then click the in port or the out port to load a text icon. In this presentation, Joe Mathia will explain how to use InDesign’s somewhat similar Data Merge function, a capability built into InDesign straight out of the box. You’re probably familiar with the word processing mail merge function that allows you to send personalized letters to a number of people. Auto-suggest helps you quickly narrow down your search results by suggesting possible matches as you type. ![]() One simple fix-if it works for your project-would to be not limit the smart text flow to just the primary text frame. You can 'retrofit' your master pages, but its easier to do from the beginning. I dont think relying on it to happen before you move on in your script is a - 1956512. What had previously had Smart Text Reflow enabled, still seems to have it enabled, but a newly inserted image or additional text does not automatically flow onto the next page in the document. I adjusted the text box on the master page to an odd size, so it - 9821966. If you plan on using the primary text frame, make sure you include it when making a new document. So to update.I just kept trying to import the document and it finally worked, but, not 100. But I thought it would be easier to use an Indesign built in function instead of writing my own script code. The LA InDesign User Group’s October 21st meeting will feature Em’s own Joe Mathia presenting Data Merge with InDesign, as an online event. Check the Preferences>Type section it is present at the bottom. Of couse its possible to write the code yourself. If both are the same size (go from margin to margin) it can be difficult to tell that you have two text frames one on top of the other.LA InDesign User Group: Data Merge with InDesign ![]() Im using Smart Text Reflow, and, as I reduce the amount of text in the doc as I go through the different versions, Smart Text Reflow does indeed. Now the document page will have a text frame filled with text and another one made from the primary text frame on the parent page. Im working with a client on a 300-page book thats loaded with conditional text (one version for Board members, one version for middle managers.). Now I realize that document page 2 is missing items that are on the parent page, so I reapply parent page 2 to document page 2. Because I see that the parent page is applied to document page two, I will load my cursor at the end of document page 1, and click in document page 2 to flow the text.īut because that second page had the parent page applied before it included a primary text frame, there will be no waiting text frame in the document page, and when I click the loaded cursor it creates it's own text frame. Each document page has the correct parent page applied, but the second parent page does not have a primary text frame. I am using a document that was set up before all of my parent pages were finalized. I actually do this all the time, and I am an experienced InDesign user.
